Hey Eagles – While the weather outside may be frightful, there is a lot going on this week at GHS that you don’t want to miss! Here are some of the events that are happening this week:
--GHS PTSA Board
- All this week: ASB hosts the “Gabrielino Holiday Celebration” so put on your holiday gear and get ready for some fun-filled winter activities (see attached image for information). First up for Monday, Dec. 9th, is Holiday PJ Day with a milk & cookies eating contest at lunch!
- Monday, December 9: Parent-to-Parent Coffee, “Education Funding Changes: What Does Local Control Mean to Me?” 7 pm, Media Center. We hope you can join the GHS PTSA, Principal Sharron Heinrich and Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Nonette Martin, to learn more about the recently adopted system for deciding how much money each school district receives from the State of California; this new system is called the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). LCFF requires that school districts get parental and community input as they develop their action plans (LCAP). For background information about LCFF and LCAP, please see the attached flyers.
- Monday, December 9: Girls Basketball vs. Gladstone, starts at 3:30 pm, Large Gym.
- Tuesday, Dec. 10: Dog Haus Fundraiser (every Tuesday): Come check out the food at the Dog Haus located at 410 E. Main St., Alhambra. Mention that you’re with GHS and a portion of the sale will support the school.
- Tuesday, Dec. 10: Boys Soccer vs. Northview, starts at 3:15 pm (Varsity plays at the Stadium, JV on the baseball field).
- Wednesday, December 11: GHS Choir, Holiday Concert, Goodson Theatre, 7 pm.
- Wednesday, December 11: Boys & Girls Basketball vs. Temple City, starts at 3 p.m., Large Gym.
- Thursday, December 12: GHS Band/Orchestra, Holiday Performance, Goodson Theatre, 7 pm.
- Thursday, Dec. 12: Boys Soccer vs. Village Christian, starts at 3:15 pm.
- Friday, Dec. 13: Holiday “Soup for the Season” GHS Staff Luncheon, 10:30 am – 1:15 pm, Library. A separate email/invitation will be sent out if you would like to volunteer to support the holiday luncheon for our wonder GHS staff!
- Friday, Dec. 13: Wrestling, Gabrielino 10 Way Varsity Tournament, starts at 3:15 pm, Small Gym. Tournament continues the following day at 10 am.
- Saturday, December 14: Please join the GHS PTSA in supporting the 2013 Holiday Basket "Change for Change" Drive for needy families and seniors in San Gabriel. Every donation of food, gift cards and money makes a HUGE difference! Donations should be made directly to the Women's Division of the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce, and will be distributed on Dec. 14th from 9am-noon, at Hope Christian Fellowship, 6116 N. San Gabriel Blvd. See attached flyer for more information.
- Saturday, December 14: The Gabrielino Eagle Marching Regiment (GEMR) hosts its First Annual GEMR Showcase on December 14th at the Football Stadium, beginning at 1:00pm! Catch our GHS Marching band in action one last time as they perform their full show, some pep music, and each section of the band will flaunt their talents by performing a separate piece they have prepared on their own. Admission is FREE and there will be refreshments and raffle prizes, on top of GREAT music!
- Wednesday, December 18 to Friday, December 20: GHS First Semester Finals, 8 am – 12:15 pm. Period 1 and 4 finals take place on Wednesday, Period 2 and 5 finals take place on Thursday, and Period 3 and 6 finals take place on Friday.
- SEF’s Annual Phone a thon was a huge success! Total pledges to date are $15,178! SEF is now in the process of collecting on the pledges, and it is still not too late to donate! Thank you to the GHS community whose families have pledged a total of $5025 to support all of the wonderful programs provided by SEF!
