Hey there Eagles!

Don’t forget that the deadline for entries to the GHS PTSA 2014 Reflections Program is next Monday, November 3rd at noon in the Student Center. The theme again is “The world would be a better place if ….” and can be expressed in the following six (6) areas: dance choreography; film production; literature; music composition; photography; and visual arts. Do you want to ensure that your teenager learns how to be a safe driver? Distracted and reckless driving is the #1 killer of teenagers in America. The GHS PTSA wants to reduce these preventable deaths by raising awareness and providing education about the very real danger of distracted driving and inexperienced decision making. Visit the GHS PTSA web page on Teen Driving at http://www.gabrielinoptsa.org/teen-driving.html, and keep an eye-out for an upcoming Safe Teen Driver Workshop sponsored by the GHS PTSA.

Finally, it’s flu season and a list of Free Flu Clinics available now through the end of November is posted outside the Student Center and the Main Office.

Monday, Oct. 27: Girls Soccer Tryouts start today through Thursday from 2:30 to 4:30 pm on the grass field. All athletic sports packets must be turned in to Mrs. Sanchez and cleared ahead of time in order to try out.
Monday, Oct. 27: Starting today, the Library will have new hours! The Library will be open until 7 pm, Monday through Thursday, and will be open until 5 pm on Fridays.
Monday, Oct. 27: Today is the last day of Interact’s Toy Drive. Please donate toys to Room E262. There is also a circle meeting today during lunch.
Tuesday, Oct. 28: Dog Haus Fundraiser for GHS PTSA (every Tuesday): See link to flyer for more information.
Wednesday, Oct. 29: The Four-Year College Fair will be held today in the Large Gym, during 3rd period, 4th period and lunch. Juniors and seniors may sign up to attend during 3rd or 4th period, and all students are welcome to attend during lunch.
Wednesday, Oct. 29: Girls Volleyball v. Mountain View, Varsity team plays at 3:15 pm, Large Gym; and the JV game follows.
Wednesday, Oct. 29: Fundraiser at Chipotle Mexican Grill for GHS Cross Country team, 4:00 to 8:00 pm, 3616 Rosemead Blvd., Rosemead. Come out and show your support.
Thursday, Oct. 30: The College and Career Center will be hosting a UC application workshop today for Seniors. Please sign up on your Blueprint account to attend.
Thursday, Oct. 30: GHS Freshman Football v. Mark Keppel, 3:15 pm.
Thursday, Oct. 30: GHS Varsity Football v. Pasadena Poly, 7:00 pm. Note that game was moved from originally scheduled date of 10/31.
Friday, Oct. 31: It’s Halloween and the Anime Club will be holding its annual Costume/Cosplay Contest. Sign up in Room B211 through Wednesday.
Saturday, November 1: Girls Volleyball, Freshman Tournament.

Monday, Oct. 13: CSU College application workshops will be held every Monday through November. Please sign up on your Blueprint account if you plan to attend.
Monday, Oct. 13: Interact has general meeting today at 12:10 pm in the Small Gym. The afterschool toy drive continues in Room E262 every Monday in October.
Tuesday, Oct. 14: GSA meeting in Room B108 and League of Legends Club meeting in Small Gym, both during lunch. This is the last meeting to sign up to be a member of the League of Legends Club.
Tuesday, Oct. 14: Dog Haus Fundraiser for GHS PTSA (every Tuesday): See flyer for more information.
Wednesday, Oct. 15: PSAT Testing for students who registered for the exam. All test takers must be on campus by no later than 7:45 am.
Wednesday, Oct. 15: Late start for all students who are NOT taking the PSAT exam. Please be on campus by 11:00 am. School ends at 2:55 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 15: The Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA) is extending its membership drive until today. Submit your applications by the end of lunch in Room B203.
Wednesday, Oct. 15: Freshman Girls Volleyball v. Alhambra, 4:30 pm, Small Gym.
Thursday, Oct. 16: Want WiFi? If you would like to access Student WiFi, please Mr. Chau in Room B105 by the end of lunch today.
Thursday, Oct. 16: Mandatory meeting for Anime Club today in Room B211.
Thursday, Oct. 16: GHS JV Football v. Rosemead, 3:15 pm.
Thursday, Oct. 16: GHS ELAC meeting, 6:00 pm.
Friday, Oct. 17: ASB will be hosting the first ASB-BBQ! Tickets are just $5 and you can buy them from any ASB member.
Saturday, Oct. 18: Girls Volleyball, Gabrielino Varsity Tournament.

Keep this in mind for next week:

Wednesday, Oct. 22: Late Start Day, school is in session from 9:40 am to 2:55 pm. All students must arrive on campus by 9:30 am.
Wednesday, Oct. 22: GHS Parent Seminar, “What can counselors do for you?” 6:30 pm, Goodson Theatre. Please don’t miss this opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from some of our GHS counselors.

Finally, there is still time to join the San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) Board of Directors in its Fall Friendraising event, "Feast from the East" on Saturday, October 18th at the home of Irfan and Lori Husein. Happy October Eagles!

There is a lot going on as we head into our third month of the school year and the full swing of the fall season. Can’t you feel the change in the air already?

Monday, Oct. 6: All GHS students who want to be a Cabin Leader for the 5th Grade Science Camp must submit their completed paperwork and essay to a mandatory meeting today at 3:00 pm in Room B157. Sign up on your Blueprint account if you plan to attend.
Monday, Oct. 6: The Interact Club’s topic this month is child protection. Every Monday, starting today, stop by Room E262 to donate new or gently used toys to the children.
Monday, Oct. 6: ASB is selling Class Shirts all week for $10 at the ASB Room. Purchase a shirt and show off your Class spirit!
Tuesday, Oct. 7: GHS Girls Golf v. Alhambra, at Alhambra golf course, 2:30 pm.
Tuesday, Oct. 7: The San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD) invites all Latino parents and students to a SGUSD Latino Parent Meeting to be held tonight from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Media Center at Jefferson Middle School located at 1372 E. Las Tunas Dr., San Gabriel. The purpose of the meeting is to come together to address any questions, concerns or needs of our Latino students.
Tuesday, Oct. 7: Dog Haus Fundraiser (every Tuesday): Please stop by the Dog Haus with locations in Alhambra and Pasadena any Tuesday during the school year to support the GHS PTSA. See link to flyer for more information.
Wednesday, Oct. 8: Shakey’s Fundraiser for the Gabrielino Eagles Marching Regiment, 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the Shakey’s in San Gabriel. Please support our wonderful Marching Band … plus you’ll experience good company and good pizza!
Wednesday, Oct. 8: GHS PTSA Board Meeting, 7:00 pm, Library.
Thursday, Oct. 9: All Sophomores and select other students will have their hearing and vision tested today. If you wear glasses, please make sure you bring them with you for the test.
Thursday, Oct. 9: GHS JV Football v. Mountain View, 3:15 pm.
Friday, Oct. 10: ASB will be selling snow cones at the stage during lunch. Wear your Class Shirt and receive a FREE snow cone!
Friday, Oct. 10: Freshman Girls Volleyball v. Elizabeth LC, 4:30 pm, Small Gym.
Saturday, Oct. 11: Goodwill Fundraiser for the GHS Speech & Debate Boosters, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s a great time for some fall cleaning so let’s help our Screamin’ Eagles fill the Goodwill truck! See attached flyer for more information.

Keep this in mind for next week:

Wednesday, Oct. 15: PSAT Testing for students who registered for the exam. Testing to begin at 7:45 am and last approximately three hours; regular classes will follow. For all students who are NOT taking the PSAT exam, school begins at 11:15 a.m.
