Hope you enjoyed all the fun activities of last week’s Homecoming.  Congratulations to the Varsity Football on their big victory over Marshall Fundamental on Friday’s Homecoming game, holding them scoreless with a final score of 63-0!  Way to go!

• Monday, Sept.  29:  It’s the last week to sign up for the PSAT Exam. Sales end this Friday, Oct. 3rd.  Students can sign up at the window outside the Student Center before school, at lunch, or after school until 3:15.  Each exam is $20.  Please bring exact change or a check payable to GHS.  All sales are final. Exam will be administered on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.  Parents and/or students should contact their respective GHS counselor if you have questions.

• Monday, Sept.  29:  Are you interested in playing Boys Volleyball this coming season?  Then attend a meeting today in Room B211 during lunch.  Stop by afterschool if you cannot attend the lunch meeting.

• Tuesday, Sept.  30:  GHS Girls Golf v. South Pasadena, at Alhambra golf course, 2:30 pm. 

• Tuesday, Sept. 30: ELD Meeting, 6:00 pm, B105.

• Tuesday, Sept.  30:  Dog Haus Fundraiser (every Tuesday):  Stop by the Dog Haus with locations in Alhambra and Pasadena any Tuesday during the school year, present the attached flyer and a portion of the sale will support the school.

• Wednesday, Oct. 1: Girls Volleyball v. El Monte, Varsity at 3:15 pm, Large Gym and JV game follows; Freshmen team v. San Gabriel at 4:30 pm, Small Gym.

• Wednesday, Oct. 1: GHS “College Information & Financial Aid” Night, 6:30 pm, Goodson Theatre and other locations. This is especially important for Juniors and Seniors as the college application process and financial aid information will be discussed.  Please see attached flyer for more information.  

• Thursday, Oct. 2:  If you’d like to play Boys Basketball, attend a meeting today in Coach Carney’s Room B157 at 12:30 pm.  If you cannot make the meeting, see Coach Carney.

• Thursday, Oct. 2:  GHS JV Football v. South El Monte, 3:15 pm.

Lastly, a few other announcements and reminders:

Calling all GHS artists to participate in the GHS PTSA 2014 Reflections Program. With the theme “The world would be a better place if …,” students can submit an original piece in any of the following six (6) areas: dance choreography; film production; literature; music composition; photography; and visual arts. Registration is open to all GHS student who want to be a Cabin Leader for the 5th Grade Science Camp in December.  For more information, download the Science Camp Registration Packet and information sheet from your Blueprint account.

New state standards (Common Core State Standards) have been implemented this year for all K-12 California students. California universities and colleges (UC, CSU, CCC, and AICCU) have come out in support of the new standards. UC and CSU have even updated their “a-g” admissions requirements to align with the new standards. Save the Date for a Shakey’s Fundraiser for the Gabrielino Eagles Marching Regiment to be held on Wednesday, October 8, 5:00 to 9:00 pm.   Please see attached flyer for more information.

The San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) Board of Directors invite you to a Fall Friendraising event, "Feast from the East" on Saturday, October 18th at the home of Irfan and Lori Husein. GHS is celebrating Homecoming 2014 with a week of spirited events!  Here is what ASB has planned for the week:     

• Monday – Pajama Day!

• Tuesday – Twins Day!
  
• Wednesday – Dress your wildest on Wacky Wednesday!
  
• Thursday – Go back in time in Theme Day!
  
• Friday – And finally, wear your Class Shirts!

• Tuesday, Sept.23:  Ash-a-Wut Yearbook will have its Photo with Friends Booth at lunch in the Quad for Twins Days!  Pay just $2 for four pictures.
  
• Tuesday, Sept.  23:  Dog Haus Fundraiser (every Tuesday):  You can support the GHS PTSA by stopping by the Dog Haus with locations in Alhambra and Pasadena any Tuesday during the school year. Present the flyer and a portion of the sale will support the school.
  
• Wednesday, Sept. 24: GHS Parent Seminar, 6:30 pm, Goodson Theatre.  In this first parent seminar of the year, GHS families can learn more about the parent portal on Aeries.net (online grading system) and the Blueprint-Naviance system (college and career prep system).    
  
• Thursday, Sept. 25:  GHS Freshman Football v. Glendale, 3:15 pm.  The JV team plays at Marshall Fundamental.
  
• Friday, Sept. 26:  GHS Progress Report to be mailed home today.
  
• Friday, Sept. 26: Homecoming Game -- GHS Varsity Football v. Marshall Fundamental, 7:00 pm.  Tell all GHS alumni, faculty and friends, that it’s time to come home … and GO EAGLES! 
  
• Saturday, Sept. 27: Homecoming Dance 2014, 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Quad area.  Snacks provided by GHS PTSA members.

Just a reminder that the GHS library is open Monday through Friday until 7:00 pm and is available to all GHS students.  Funded by the San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF), this is being offered on a "trial" basis only because feedback received by SEF was that students needed the library opened until later hours (later than 6:00 pm).  SEF will determine the appropriate closure time after this trial period.

It’s time to clean out your closets and garages.  The GHS Speech & Debate Boosters is hosting a Goodwill Fundraiser on October 11, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Let’s help the Screamin’ Eagles fill up the Goodwill truck by donating used or unwanted items!  See flyer for more information.

Good Morning Eagles,

A big thank you to Principal Sharron Heinrich and all of the GHS teachers and staff for putting together a fantastic Parent Information Night last week.   A lot of good information was shared and it highlighted our wonderful GHS community. • Monday, Sept.  15:  Registration for the 2014 PSAT Exam begins today.  Students may register before school, during lunch or after school until 3:15 pm at the Student Center.  The exam fee is $20.  Bring exact change or a check payable to GHS.  All sales are final. The last day to register is October 3rd and the exam will be administered on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.  Parents and/or students should contact their respective GHS counselor if you have questions.

• Monday, Sept.  15:  The Writing Workshop is now open on Mondays and Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm in Room B105.

• Tuesday, Sept. 16: Make up pictures Day.  All students who did not take their ID pictures during registration days can take make up pictures today.

• Tuesday, Sept. 16: The very first League of Legends Club meeting will be held today in the Small Gym at 12:20 pm.  Come by and learn more about the club.

• Tuesday, Sept.  16:  Dog Haus Fundraiser (every Tuesday):  Craving some yummy hot dogs and want to support the GHS PTSA?  Please stop by the Dog Haus with locations in Alhambra and Pasadena, present the attached flyer and a portion of the sale will support the school.

• Wednesday, Sept. 17: Late Start Day, school is in session from 9:40 am to 2:55 pm.  All students must arrive on campus by 9:30 am.

• Wednesday, Sept. 17:  Interested in talking to the SGUSD Superintendent?  Then come by today during lunch at the Goodson Theatre to chat with Dr. David Yoshihara.

• Wednesday, Sept. 17:  Do you want to play on the Girls Basketball team this year?  An informational meeting will take place today in Coach Shima’s Room E273 at 12:30 pm.  Returners are required to attend.

Good Morning Eagles,
According to Wikipedia, on September 8, 1994, Gabrielino High School opened its doors to its first class.  That was 20 years ago today so Happy Anniversary GHS!  We’ve come a long way.

Congratulations to the GHS JV and Varsity Football teams for securing their first win of the season!  It was a big win too against the Don Bosco Tigers with a final score of 33-8 for the JV team, and 49-6 for the Varsity team. The Gabrielino Eagles Marching Regiment also looked good as they debuted their new uniforms. Great job all-around!

• Monday, Sept.  8:  School pictures.  If you ordered school pictures during registration days, please see Mrs. Sanchez in the Student Center to pick them up.  Make-up pictures will be taken on September 16.

• Monday, Sept.  8:  GHS Parent Information Night, 6:00 pm, Goodson Theatre.  There will also be a brief GHS PTSA Association meeting held at this time.  Classroom visits will start with 1st Period at 7:08 pm.

• Tuesday, Sept. 9: Minimum Day, school is in session from 8:00 am to 11:25 am. All students will be dismissed at 11:25 am.

• Tuesday, Sept. 9: Student School Site Council elections to be held during second period.  Candidates can confirm their name on the ballot by checking with Mr. Weir in the Student Center.
• Tuesday, Sept.  9:  Dog Haus Fundraiser (every Tuesday):  The Dog Haus with locations in Alhambra and Pasadena is once again supporting the GHS PTSA this year.  Stop by any Tuesday, present the linked flyer and a portion of the sale will support the school. 

• Wednesday, Sept. 10:  Starting today, the Library will be open from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  Thanks to the generous funding support from the San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) for making this happen.  

• Wednesday, Sept. 10:  Club Rush. Every GHS club will be out today in the Quad.  Stop by and check out which ones you may like to get involved in.

• September is the last month of the City of San Gabriel’s Farmers Market, held on Thursdays from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Vincent Lugo Park.  You’ll find locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables, specialty foods and more.  Come check it out. 

• Students interested in trying out for the 2015 Tournament of Roses Royal Court need to apply at tounamentofroses.com.  You must be 17 years old by December 31st to apply.  Tryout date is September 13.
