The GHS PTSA in collaboration with parents from the other seven SGUSD schools has formed a Special Needs Committee, whose goal is to provide parents, families and caregivers of special needs students with information, resources and a network of support.
Who are the members of the Special Needs Committee?
Members are from across our San Gabriel community and include parents of both special needs and general ed students, teachers, staff and community members. Please email Cheryl Shellhart at sgspecialneedsgroup@gmail.com if you are interested in becoming a member!

What is the purpose of the Special Needs Committee?
To provide an informal setting where parents can:
  • Meet others dealing with the unique challenges of raising a special needs child
  • Share experiences, practical advice and resources with other parents
  • Network to learn about other forms of assistance, such as doctors, specialists, tutors, programs and camps.
  • Support and to mentor one another
Activities of the Special Needs Committee
  • Monthly support meetings
  • Sponsorship of yearly special needs conference with specialists as key speakers
  • Email Communication with important resources from surrounding communities
  • Gathering data about the needs of our special needs community

Free Professional Counseling

USC Telehealth is currently offering FREE (no obligation) professional counseling worth $2,000 to individuals, couples, and families that care for a child or adult with special needs, such as a physical or developmental disability. This is a unique support program specifically for parents, family and caregivers.

Participants receive 12 weeks of free 50-minute professional counseling sessions that are highly professional, secure and HIPAA compliant.
Support available for issues related to:
  • Caring for kids/adults with special needs
  • Kids/teens behavioral issues
  • Coping with a serious injury/illness
  • Improving quality of life
  • Family counseling
  • Couples therapy
