California has updated its educational system by adopting new standards for English and Math, called Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which are being implemented for all K-12 students in the 2014-2015 school year. CCSS are internationally benchmarked to those of countries like Singapore, Finland and China, where students are highly successful. CCSS focus on teaching real-world skills needed for career and college. Students will learn in a more coherent way by acquiring content knowledge while simultaneously developing the 4-C skills: creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.
